You are here: Home Modernizing BC’s Mineral Tenure Act The Solution

The Solution

A modern Mineral Tenure Act would ensure that future resource projects would be carefully planned and pose minimal risk. It would include:

  • An exploration approval process to replace Free Entry.
  • Ecosystem values and other interests considered before final approval of tenure
  • A requirement of consultation and consent from First Nations and private landowners
  • Tenures only considered in areas with strategic land-use plans
  • An environmental assessment that includes cumulative impacts for advanced exploration activities
  • Revised regulation of early stage exploration
  • Consultations to cover all stages of exploration activity
  • A dispute resolution process for early resolutions to internet-based staking conflicts
