Take Action on Pesticides!
The BC government has set up a Special Committee to consider banning the use of pesticides on lawns and gardens. They are hearing from a variety of experts and interests, including those that want to keep spreading toxic chemicals on our lawns and in our parks. The Committee also wants to hear from the public on this issue, and we want to make sure they get a clear message back that British Columbians want a strong law that protects our families, pets and environment from the unnecessary use of chemical pesticides.
The public comment period is open until December 16, 2011, and there are a few ways to have your voice heard.
- Answer the questionnaire they've posted - it's not as straightforward as it could have been, so we've provided our suggestions on the best way to answer it to ensure your voice counts for a strong ban on cosmetic pesticides. First, download the guide here, then go to the Committee's website to answer the questionnaire.
- Send an email - you can send one we've suggested, but it would be far stronger if you changed it - a lot or even a little - to make it into your own submission and include some of your own stories about why you're concerned about cosmetic pesticide use.
- Submit a video! Get together with your family or friends to tell us why you think lawn and garden pesticides should be banned. Submit it to the committee here, then share it on the Pesticide Free BC Facebook page.
